| Books ore information about pyrographic art are very few to find. Some books about the subject does exist but are very rare and most of the time not published anymore. When the word pyrographic art is spoken in company, most of the people will knit one there brow. That makes it not superfluous to clarify this artistic art form. Burning a drawing ore decoration on a relative soft base like wood, leather, felt, ...... with a heated pen after drawing with a pencil, is a short definition of pyrographic art. The instrument that is used for it consists of an adjustable transformer, that leads a constant power of max. 12V. to a with glow thread wrapped metal pen. This pen is tightened in a holder and is available in different forms. The picture below shows two pirographic tools in a box. The smallest can heat one pen and the biggest two pens at a time. There are different models on the market, but it is very important to have a tool where the current intensity can be adjusted without steps, when shadow has to be created. | | | | Finally I deal with the base where can be worked on. For the time being Ivan worked only on wood. In theory all wood is suitable to be worked, but practical just some sorts of wood seem to submit to the influence of the heated pen. The ideal sort of wood for pyrographic art is basswood ore lime that is very soft, is very easy to sand and has few disturbing nerves. The regrettable thing is that this wood is very difficult to find in Belgium. Easier to find is beech that is much more solid and needs more heat to be worked. |
